Clifford William EMMS, son of William Frederick EMMS (23 Apr 1888- c. 1969) and Rose Edith FULLER ( c. 1890-c. 1932 ), was born on 25 June 1920 in North Lopham, Norfolk and was baptised there on 15 August 1920. Clifford enlisted on 18 July 1940 - 7th Armoured Division, Royal Tank Regiment. On 18 May 1941 he had a casualty record, “Emms, CW, 7904069, Tpr. 4th Royal Tank Regiment” with no further details. A prisoner of war record shows: “Name: Clifford Emms. Date of Birth: 25/6/1920. Place of Birth: North Lopham Norfolk. Service: British Army. Rank: Private. Regiment/Unit/Squadron: Royal Armoured Corps. Service Number: 7904069. Date of Capture: 21 June 1942. Theatre of Capture: Tobruk. Camp Name/Number: Stalag IVB Muhlberg. PoW number: 220820.” His POW discharge questionnaire gave the names of camps he had been in: PG70 Port St. Georges, 7/43 - 8/43; 334 Landsdorf, 8/43 - 9/43; 711 Reigesfield, 9/43 - 1/45, working camp, building air raid shelters; XIIIB Wieden, 3/45 - 4/45; also his home address was given as Dairy Farm, Alpington, nr Norwich, Norfolk. He died on 5 March 1977 in Poringland, Norfolk. He had his estate probated on 14 April 1977 in Ipswich, Suffolk - “EMMS, Clifford William of 20 Footpath Poringland Norwich died 5 March 1977 Administration Ipswich 14 April. £2477. 771101176L”.
